We aim to encourage increased planting of indigenous and endemic species across our local area, including through advocacy and by revegetating pocket parks and other public-facing land, in collaboration with City of Stonnington and other relevant authorities.
Steps towards our goal to establish a biodiversity zone in and around the Tooronga station precinct began with revegetation work on the station grounds through the then Stationeers Program in 2021. The Tooronga biodiversity zone now includes the station itself, nature strips on Milton Pde and Hornsby St, and our first project site on Council land at BEAMI Park, the pocket park at the corner of Beaven Ave and Milton Pde Malvern.
Work on the Stage 1 beds at BEAMI began in December 2022, with Stage 2 starting the following year. It has been a real pleasure to watch the space transform and see the plantings flourish. We are delighted to announce that work on Stage 3 will commence in the last quarter of 2026. Do join us!
